Summary: Unveiled at IFA 2026, Tuya Smart’s new AI-powered robot Doova combines emergency assistance, home monitoring, smart home control, and companionship to help older adults age safely at home.

As the global population ages, demand is rising for technologies that support independent living for seniors. At IFA 2026 in Berlin, smart home technology company Tuya Smart introduced Doova, an AI-powered mobile home companion designed to improve safety, communication, and daily assistance for older adults living alone.

Unlike traditional smart speakers, Doova can move throughout the home using LDS LiDAR navigation, AI vision, and a four-microphone array. If a user calls out, “Hey Tuya, help,” the robot can locate the person, travel to their location, and initiate an emergency support process. If the user remains unresponsive for 60 seconds, family members receive alerts and can join a live two-way video call to assess the situation.

Beyond emergency assistance, Doova functions as an AI companion robot powered by a multimodal large language model. Users can hold natural conversations, receive medication reminders, manage schedules, check weather updates, and even get assistance understanding documents or identifying potential scam risks.

The robot also serves as a smart home controller, allowing users to operate connected lights, curtains, and household devices through voice commands. In addition, Doova can patrol a home while residents are away, performing 360-degree room scans and generating security reports that can be viewed remotely.

The launch reflects a growing trend toward AI-powered eldercare, home robotics, and intelligent aging-in-place solutions. However, questions remain regarding privacy, emergency reliability, pricing, and commercial availability. Because Doova uses cameras, microphones, and AI-based monitoring, experts say transparency around data storage and user privacy will be critical for consumer trust.

While Tuya has not yet announced a release date or retail price, Doova highlights how the next generation of home robots could help families stay connected while enabling seniors to maintain greater independence and safety in their own homes.
